Enel, an Italian utility, is planning to funnel $52.7 million into a solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Hidalgo, a state in Mexico, according to Renewables Now.
Enel Green Power Mexico, the local green energy supplier, has been greenlighted to finalize the project in the shortest possible time. EGP operates 21 plants in Mexico with a capacity of 2.933 megawatts.
This is the second investment announced by an Italian utility in the state of Hidalgo as of late. Last week, Engie said it is planning to develop a 185-megawatt solar PV park, commencing operations in early 2021.The 869.8-acre project is known as Nueva Xcala and is expected to generate enough energy to power 260,000 homes and offset 300,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
According to Renewables Now, Mexico has identified 2.5 hectares (6.177 acres) of land that are likely to be used for solar projects in the future.
