EDF and Alliant Energy bring 200MW Iowa wind project online

by Kali Persall

EDF and Alliant Energy have commenced commercial operations for a 200-megawatt wind project in Iowa, according to Power Technology.

The Golden Plains Wind Project is located in the north-central region of Iowa in the counties of Winnebago and Kossuth. It is equipped with 82 wind turbines and is expected to generate enough clean energy to power 73,000 homes per year.

Kate O’Hair, north region development vice president of EDF Renewables, noted the project carries a variety of economic benefits for the state of Iowa.

“The project provides an economic boost to Iowa’s economy, through new construction and operations jobs, expanded tax base, and recurring, long-term income for participating landowners,” she said.

With the facility, EDF Renewables has commissioned 1.4 gigawatts of wind capacity in Iowa.
