Duke Energy Florida filed a revised settlement that lays out a four-year, nearly a $6 billion investment, for solar energy, smart meters, and grid modernization as well as electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and a battery storage pilot program.
In exchange, Duke Energy will terminate all plans to build its Levy Nuclear Project.
It will add 700 megawatts of solar energy. The company plans to begin construction of its sixth Florida solar power plant to be located in Hamilton County in early 2018. The plant will have approximately 300,000 solar panels and will be built on nearly 550 acres of land in Jasper.
The Hamilton Solar Plant will produce 74.9 megawatts of clean, emissions-free energy, which is enough to power more than 20,000 homes at peak production.
And it will produce 50 meagwatts of energy storage, 500 electric vehicle chargers, and smart meters and grid modernization across the state.
