Dominion Energy, developer of the largest planned offshore wind farm in the United States, said the proposed 2.6-gigawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) commercial project is moving toward the next phase of buildout.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is planning to publish a Notice of Intent (NOI) for the CVOW, kicking off BOEM's and other federal agencies' review of the project. This will be followed by the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which will take about two years. It also opens a 30-day public comment period and ensures CVOW remains on schedule to complete construction in 2026.
“Virginia is all in on offshore wind,” said Gov. Ralph Northam. “We are developing the infrastructure, workforce, supply chain, and manufacturing capabilities needed to capture the many benefits of this emerging industry.”
