Dominion Energy has received approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission for the 2.6-gigawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project to move forward. The project will be constructed 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach.
CVOW represents a clean-energy investment of $9.8 billion, and as the largest project of its kind in the United States. Once completed, CVOW is expected to generate enough clean energy to power as many as 660,000 homes.
“We are very pleased that the commission has approved this important project that will benefit our customers,” said Robert Blue, chair, president and CEO of Dominion Energy. “We are reviewing the specifics of the order, particularly the performance requirement.”
Construction on CVOW is expected to reach completion in 2026.
