Denmark is pushing forward with a project to develop artificial islands to house a 10-gigawatt offshore wind farm, according to several media sources.
The Danish government is looking to funnel as much as $45 billion into the project, Bloomberg reports. The ministry expects that most of the investments will be made by private companies.
The mega–wind project would have the capacity to power 10 million homes; a capacity that is five times higher than what is currently installed in Denmark, according to Bloomberg.
Energy minister Dan Jørgensen said the energy could be converted into green fuel for infrastructure sectors such as aviation and shipping, noted Wind Power Monthly.
“If we are to realize the enormous potential of offshore wind, new technologies will have to be developed to convert green power into fuel for aircraft, ships and industry,” said Jørgensen.
The government is spending an initial $9.6 million on
