The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and an undisclosed Indian partner are planning to unveil a private debt investment platform within the next couple of weeks, a senior executive of the firm has revealed.
The platform will include investment in stressed assets as a debt strategy and add credit as a vertical in India, a move it has been considering for at least two years, according to VCCircle.
“We’ve been thinking about it for a long time … we have made the decision that we will be allocating capital for the private debt markets,” said Vikram Gandhi, senior advisor for CPPIB. “That analysis is over.”
To date, CPPIB has invested C$10.6 billion ($7.9 billion) in India in a variety of sectors, including renewable, infrastructure, real estate and technology, reported Forbes.
