Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners invests in Finland’s largest biogas plant

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has taken final investment decision on what will be Finland’s largest industrial-scale biogas plant, Nivalan Biokaasu.

Nivalan Biokaasu, a liquefied renewable natural gas (bioLNG) plant, will have an expected annual biomethane production of more than 200 gigawatt-hours, displacing up to 38,000 tons of fossil carbon dioxide each year. When fully operational, the plant will process more than 600,000 tons of feedstock annually, converting agricultural and industrial organic waste into biomethane, which plays a crucial role in securing Finland’s energy independence and the green transition.

The investment in Nivalan Biokaasu is the third investment for CIP’s CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (CI ABF I) and the first outside of Denmark. The fund achieved its final close in October 2023, raising €750 million ($874 million) of commitments.
