Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired a 25 percent stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project, delivering up to 1,080 megawatts off the north Essex and south Suffolk coast in England.
CIP joins EDF power solutions, ESB and Sumitomo Corp. as backers of the project in a new partnership structure that joins together expertise in developing, financing and operating large-scale offshore wind farms globally.
The Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm received development consent in December 2025 after more than four years of development. Since then, CIP confirmed work has been ongoing to further the project design, start early procurement work and continue engagement with landowners, communities and other stakeholders. After it becomes operational, it is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the equivalent needs of approximately 1 million average U.K. homes annually.
