Consortium wins bid for 146-mile rail project in Mexico

Mexico’s Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (Fonatur) has selected the Operadora CICSA SA de CV consortium as the winning bidder for a 235-kilometer (146-mile) train project in Mexico.

The consortium will handle the construction work of Section 2 of the Maya Train Project, which runs from Escárcega to Calkiní in the Mexican state of Campeche.

The Operadora CICSA SA de CV consortium bested 14 other applicants who submitted bids for the project, according to InfraPPP. The consortium's financial offer for the project was valued at Mex$18.5 billion ($769 million).

Regarding technical criteria, Fonatur said the consortium ranked as the best technical offer  given the quality of work, capacity of the bidder, experience and specialty of the bidder, in addition to other factors.

Analyses carried out by Fonatur and the UNOPS also concluded that the consortium made up of Operadora CICSA SA de CV in an association agreement with FCC Construcción SA
