Confidence wanes as infrastructure investments stall

by Kali Persall

A new global infrastructure survey has revealed that infrastructure investments have hit a standstill as COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the world, putting essential development projects in question and destroying confidence that investments will pick up following the pandemic.

According to ConstructConnect, the Global Infrastructure Industry Survey, which was conducted by CG/LA Infrastructure from March 19–30, received more than 13,000 responses from various sectors, including engineering/construction, finance, public owners of infrastructure and technology fields from more than 30 countries.

Norman Anderson, chairman and CEO of CG/LA Infrastructure, urged that in order to make any significant economic recovery, there will need to be a robust infrastructure commitment. But the survey found that 52 percent of respondents believe that infrastructure investment will decline or decline significantly. Prior to the crisis, that number was only 10 percent.
