CityFibre, the United Kingdom’s largest independent full-fiber provider, has been awarded three new contracts by the U.K. government to assist the rollout of its £5 billion ($6.4 billion) Project Gigabit program.
The three contracts, representing £318 million ($406 million), will subsidize the rollout of gigabit-capable infrastructure to 218,000 rural homes and businesses in Norfolk, Suffolk and Hampshire that would otherwise be excluded from commercial rollouts, transforming digital connectivity across the three counties.
“This government is delivering on its priority to grow the economy, creating better-paid jobs and opportunity across the country,” said Chloe Smith, secretary of state for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. "We are delivering on our commitment to bring fast and reliable digital connectivity to people regardless of where they grow up, live, learn or work.”
