CIP and SSE Thermal near construction phase of energy-from-waste project in the U.K.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and joint venture partner SSE Thermal have reached financial close on the 49.9-megawatt energy-from-waste project known as Slough Multifuel. The project is located within the Slough Trading Estate Greater London area.

CIP acquired a 50 percent stake in Slough Multifuel from SSE Thermal in April, and the parties have codeveloped the project throughout the remaining development phase.

The total investment amount will be around £400 million ($534 million) and equally split between SSE Thermal and CIP’s Copenhagen Infrastructure IV (CI IV) fund.

Once fully commissioned, Slough Multifuel will process some 480,000 tons of residual waste per annum, turning into a renewable energy source. The project is expected to offset more than 147,000 tons of carbon emissions per year and power more than 100,000 homes.
