China’s GCL System Integration Technology Co. is planning to build the world’s biggest solar-panel manufacturing plant and will invest $2.54 billion to do so, according to Bloomberg.
Located in China’s eastern Hefei province, the planned facility will produce 60 gigawatts of solar panels per year and have the capacity to meet half of global demand.
As a frame of reference, in 2019, there were 30 gigawatts of capacity installed in China. In addition, the world’s biggest solar-panel maker, JinkoSolar Holding Co., has 16 gigawatts of capacity, according to Bloomberg.
A timeline has not yet been established for the project.
