Canadian Solar has raised $208 million for its Japan Green Infrastructure Fund (JGIF), which will develop, build and accumulate new solar projects in Japan. The fund also will consider green bond placements and project finance loans as it expands its asset portfolio.
JGIF marks Canadian Solar's first platform entry into the private institutional capital pool.
JGIF is planning to grant first offer rights to the Canadian Solar Infrastructure Fund, a Japanese-listed infrastructure fund holding operating solar assets managed by Canadian Solar's asset management subsidiary.
In addition, Canadian Solar and Macquarie Advisory & Capital Solutions will jointly serve as general partners of the fund, holding 67 percent and 33 percent stakes, respectively. Macquarie also will serve as the financial adviser of the fund.
