CalPERS develops a 2030 Sustainable Investment Strategy

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has developed a 2030 Sustainable Investment Strategy that aims to put the pension fund on a pathway to a net-zero portfolio by 2050.

As CalPERS hopes to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy through more selected investments in high-emitting sectors, the Sustainable Investment Strategy posits an aim to invest more than $100 billion toward climate solutions by 2030.

As part of the strategy, subject to fiduciary duty and investment analysis, CalPERS would develop a process to exit certain securities for companies without credible net-zero plans, meeting documents show.
