Brookfield Asset Management, Brookfield Renewable and Microsoft have signed a first-of-its-kind global renewable-energy framework agreement that will contribute to Microsoft’s sustainability goal of having 100 percent of its electricity consumption matched by zero-carbon energy purchases by 2030.
The five-year agreement outlines plans for Brookfield to deliver more than 10.5 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity between 2026 and 2030 in the United States and Europe. According to the companies, this is nearly eight times larger than the biggest single corporate power-purchase agreement ever signed. The agreement has the potential to expand in scope to deliver additional renewable-energy capacity within the United States and Europe, as well as Asia Pacific, India and Latin America.
The framework agreement provides Microsoft with access to a pipeline of new renewable-energy capacity to support the growing demand for cloud services at home and at work. It will not
