Brookfield and Blackstone in talks regarding potential LNG deal

Brookfield Asset Management is in talks with Blackstone Group regarding the acquisition of Blackstone’s minority interest in liquefied natural gas terminal operator Cheniere Energy Partners in a deal valued at $7.8 billion, Bloomberg reports.

Cheniere Energy Partners is the largest producer of LNG in the United States and the second-largest LNG operator in the world, according to the firm’s website. Cheniere is operating, constructing and developing two LNG facilities on the U.S. Gulf Coast, which process billions of cubic feet of natural gas per day into LNG.

Around 85 percent of Cheniere’s expected aggregate LNG production capacity is contracted through long-term take-or-pay style agreements with creditworthy counterparties. The remaining volumes of LNG they can produce are made available to sell into the market.
