Blue Phoenix Group expands foothold in incinerator bottom ash industry

by Kali Persall

Blue Phoenix Group (BPG), a Netherlands-based waste recycling infrastructure platform, has entered into a binding agreement to acquire Meldgaard Recycling, a Denmark-based company specializing in incinerator bottom ash (IBA) treatment.

Incinerator bottom ash is the noncombustible residue left after waste incineration, primarily from municipal solid waste.

Meldgaard Recycling has more than 25 years of experience in sorting and recovering metals from IBA produced by waste-to-energy plants. The company currently handles more than half of Denmark’s total IBA from incineration plants.

BPG said this acquisition represents a major step in expanding its presence in Denmark to include IBA processing, which is BPG’s core business globally. The acquisition follows the 2024 acquisition of RGS Nordic, a soil and construction waste treatment company in Denmark.
