BKW completes offtake agreement for offshore wind in Germany

BKW, a German international energy and infrastructure company, has concluded a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with OWP Butendiek, an offshore wind farm located in the German North Sea.

The Butendiek offshore wind farm has an output of around 288 megawatts. Starting in July 2024, BKW will purchase 8 percent of total production — around 200 gigawatt-hours of green electricity each year — at a fixed price from the wind farm.

The wind farm is owned by a consortium consisting of CITIC, Industriens Pensionsforsikring, ITOCHU Corporation, Greencoat Renewables, Octopus Energy, Siemens and wpd. Construction of the wind farm began in spring 2014, and the full commissioning took place in August 2015.

BKW said this PPA enables BKW to expand its renewable-energy portfolio and supply customers with clean electricity.
