As Australian bushfires rage, NSW government pours cash into cause

The government of New South Wales (NSW) has pledged $1 billion to help communities rebuild in the wake of the devastating Australian bushfires, which have ravaged more than 15 million acres of land full of wildlife as of Jan. 9, according to The New York Times.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the contribution in a joint statement with Treasurer Dominic Perrottet on Thursday.

“This money will provide an immediate source of funding to ensure key infrastructure is restored so that communities can get back on their feet as soon as possible,” said Berejiklian

“The bushfire season is far from over but we know how important it is for communities to start the recovery process where possible.”

The money will fund repairs to damaged vital infrastructure such as roads, rail lines, bridge
