Australia needs A$55b worth of projects

by Andrea Zander

More than A$55 billion ($43 billion) of priority projects are needed to shape Australia's cities and regions in the next 15 years, according to Infrastructure Australia.

High priorities include major new public transport in Sydney, the East West Link in Melbourne, Cross River Rail in Brisbane, and preserving the high-speed rail corridor down the eastern seaboard.

Infrastructure Australia’s 2018 priority list recommends almost 100 projects already under way, in the planning stages or on the agenda. The priority list identifies a number of additional opportunities to improve connectivity among capitals and neighboring cities.

“Upgrading this infrastructure will be key to enable our satellite cities to develop stronger economic and employment foundations and links to our bigger cities,” said Julieanne Alroe, Infrastructure Australia chair.
