Latin America–based Atlas Renewable Energy and British mining company Anglo American Plc. have signed the largest solar-energy purchase and sale contract in Brazil, with an investment of R$881 million ($187 million).
The solar energy will be generated through the 330-megawatt Atlas Casablanca photovoltaic solar plant, which is located in the State of Minas Gerais. The plant is expected to supply about 9 terawatt hours during the life of the 15-year contract, enough to supply a city of 1.4 million in Brazil, and will commence in 2022.
Atlas Renewable Energy noted that it will use bifacial modules, a technology that uses the reflection of the sun’s rays from the front and back, increasing the energy generation of the plant.
Carlos Barrera, CEO of Atlas Renewable Energy, added that the company was the first to implement a solar Private PPA in Chile some eight years ago.
