Amprion plans new power line in Germany

by Kali Persall

German high-voltage grid operator Amprion is planning to spend €4 billion ($4.2 billion) to expand a power line from Hanekenfahr in Lingen to Gronau in North Rhine-Westphalia, according to reports.

This would be the fourth high-voltage line in the region.

Amprion is one of four transmission system operators in Germany. The company’s extra-high-voltage network is 11,000 kilometers (6,835 miles) long and transports electricity across an area that extends from Lower Saxony to the Alps, according to the firm’s website. Around a third of Germany’s economic output is generated there.
