Ameren increases grid modernization efforts in Missouri

Ameren Missouri, a subsidiary of Ameren Corp., has filed updates to its $8.4 billion Smart Energy Plan and budget with the Missouri Public Service Commission.

The plan supports grid modernization efforts over the next five years and includes the installation of more than 1 million smart meters, increased renewable generation, programs to stimulate economic growth and infrastructure upgrades that enable clean energy generation.

The Smart Energy Plan is currently in its third year of implementation and already has assembled more than 200 smart equipment switches to reduce outages and provided 14 new or upgraded substations. Ameren Missouri also began a smart meter rollout in 2020 and has delivered 133,000 meters. The company aims to upgrade 1.2 million electric meters by 2024.
