Amazon Web Services is planning to invest $13.2 billion in cloud infrastructure in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, between now and 2027, reports InnovationAus. The Sydney region will receive $11 billion of the total.
AWS’s investment will be directed primarily at constructing data centers, importing equipment and hiring staff to operate and maintain the infrastructure.
In January, AWS launched the AWS Asia Pacific (Melbourne) Region, its second cloud infrastructure region in Australia. At the time, AWS said it expected to invest $6.8 million in the project between 2022 and 2037.
Amazon also said it plans to power all its operations, including data centers, with renewable energy by 2025.
