Altice Europe launches Portuguese fiber company, €4.6b Morgan Stanley partnership

by Kali Persall

Altice Europe has created a nationwide fiber wholesaler in Portugal as part of a new partnership with Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners.

In December 2019, MEO, a subsidiary of Altice Europe N.V., signed an agreement with Morgan Stanley to sell its minority equity stake of 49.99 percent in Altice Portugal FTTH and create a nationwide fiber wholesaler in Portugal. The deal valued Fastfiber at €4.6 billion ($4.9 billion).

Fastfiber is the largest FTTH wholesaler in Portugal with 4 million FTTH homes passed at year-end 2019. As part of the deal, Fastfiber will sell wholesale services to all operators at the same financial terms. MEO will sell technical services to Fastfiber for the construction, maintenance and subscriber connection to the fiber network.

Fastfiber consists of all of MEOs fiber assets in Portugal, including FTTH and dark fiber.
