AirTrunk closes largest green loan in global data center history

AirTrunk, an Asia Pacific and Japan hyperscale data center specialist backed by Macquarie, has closed a landmark green loan in Japan as part of its new Green Financing Framework.

The A$2.1 billion ($1.4 billion) green loan will finance AirTrunk’s recently announced 110-megawatt West Tokyo data center, AirTrunk TOK2. It will be the first green loan for a data center in Japan, as well as the largest in global data center history.

AirTrunk’s Green Financing Framework has outlined eligibility criteria for its green projects. In order to be financed through green loans, they must have a positive impact on the environment. The company has defined three categories as green-loan eligible: green data center, renewable energy and water efficiency.
