AIP Management, an investor in energy and decarbonization infrastructure, has agreed to acquire a 49 percent equity stake in a U.K. battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio from BW ESS, a global developer, owner and operator of energy storage systems.
The transaction marks AIP’s first dedicated investment in stand-alone battery storage and reflects its strategy of investing alongside industrial partners with complementary expertise.
“We are delighted to welcome AIP as our partner in this strategically important portfolio,” said Erik Strømsø, CEO of BW ESS. “We see strong alignment in our approaches and a shared ambition to deliver storage assets at scale.”
With a total capacity of 700 megawatts, the portfolio comprises three assets: Bramley (100 megawatts/331 megawatt-hours), which is already operational, and Hams Hall (400 megawatts/1,422 megawatt-hours) and Berkswell (200 megawatts/712 megawatt-hours), which are under construction.
