AGL and Wartsila to deliver large-scale hybrid energy systems in Australia

by Kali Persall

Australia’s AGL has signed an agreement with Wartsila Energy, a Finnish company that manufactures and services power sources in the marine and energy markets, to deliver large-scale hybrid energy systems to commercial and industrial customers in Australia.

In January, AGL enlisted the help of Wartsila, under a nonexclusive framework agreement, to supply up to 1,000 megawatts of grid-scale batteries across Australia’s National Electricity Market.

The partnership will enable the development of systems that integrate renewable behind-the-meter and off-grid technologies, in order to improve energy efficiencies and supply.

“Energy storage, balancing engine power plants and intelligent energy management software are needed to support the seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the power system while maintaining system flexibility, network stability and energy security,” said Sushil Purohit, president of Wartsila.
