AES strikes turbine deal with Siemens Gamesa for Brazilian wind farm

by Kali Persall

AES Corp. has contracted Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to supply wind turbines for the Tucano wind farm in Bahia, Brazil.

According to several news sources, SGRE will supply 52 units of its SG 5.8-170 wind turbines, which will operate at up to 6.2 megawatts. The project is scheduled for commissioning next year and is expected to be Siemens Gamesa’s largest order to date, with a total installed capacity of 312 megawatts.

“Over the last decade, Siemens Gamesa has shown an unmatched commitment towards the Brazilian market, bringing its latest technologies and investing heavily in localizing production and creating jobs,” said Alfonso Faubel, CEO of Siemens Gamesa’s onshore business unit. “We are happy to build on that history and see the footprint of our Siemens Gamesa 5.X expanding globally, demonstrating its adaptability to all markets.”
