Actis has launched a $250 million pan-African data center platform, comprising independently owned, carrier-neutral data centers across key African markets.
The firm has already completed its first investment — a controlling stake in Nigerian colocation business Rack Centre.
According to Actis, Rack Centre owns and operates a certified Tier III data center in Lagos. It has the largest installed capacity in West Africa and hosts Nigeria’s internet exchange, making it the most connected facility in the region. Rack Centre links every country on Africa’s Atlantic coast.
Actis said the investment in Rack Centre will fund an expansion, creating the largest data center outside South Africa with more than 10 megawatts of hosting capability.
Nigeria is Africa’s largest data center market outside South Africa.
