Actis launches $550m renewables platform in Japan

by Kali Persall

Actis has launched a new $500 million Japan-focused renewables platform, Nozomi Energy, targeting 1.1 gigawatt of onshore wind and solar generation by 2027.

Actis has signed its first investment and seed asset for Nozomi with the acquisition of Hergo Japan Energy Corp. from Infrastrutture, an internationally active renewable-energy developer and IPP. Hergo Japan Energy has a portfolio of operating- and development-stage solar and onshore wind projects totaling around 230 megawatts, in addition to a significant pipeline of early-stage projects.

Actis has recruited a dedicated management team to run Nozomi and deliver its buy-and-build strategy. Jose Antonio Millan Ruano, an experienced energy professional with around 20 years of renewables experience (including more than 11 years in Japan) will lead the team. Ruano was most recently president & CEO of Hinode Energy and was at Univergy Solar prior to that.

Actis said Nozomi will focus on delivering onshore win
