Actis-backed Rezolv Energy to develop Europe’s largest solar PV plant

by Denise Moose

Rezolv Energy, an Actis portfolio company and an independent clean energy producer in Central and Southeastern Europe, has acquired the rights to build and operate a 1,044-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in western Romania. The seller was the Monsson Group.

The project — which is expected to be the largest solar PV plant in Europe — will be connected to 400-kilovolt high-voltage overhead lines and will likely include a 135-megawatt battery storage system. With an average annual power generation of 1.5 billion megawatt hours, the plant is expected to be able to provide clean power for more than 370,000 households. Power will be sold to commercial and industrial users through long-term power-purchase agreements.

Rezolv Energy is already appraising technology solutions and debt financing options, with construction due to start in the first half of 2023. The project is in the late-stage development phase and is expected to be online by 2025.
