$22b Project Star energy infrastructure campus to be built in Texas

by Kali Arevalo

The U.S. Department of Commerce and the Republic of Korea have unveiled development plans for Project Star, a $22.3 billion energy infrastructure campus in Encinal, Texas.

Project Star is part of a trade deal between Korea and the United States that was initially announced on July 30, 2025, to enhance cooperation in strategic industrial sectors such as energy and artificial intelligence.

The United States and the Republic of Korea have announced the selection of Related Companies and NextEra Energy Resources, in partnership with Lewis Energy Group, to develop Project Star. The facility will have 6.47 gigawatts of natural gas generation to directly support an adjacent privately funded 5-gigawatt data center campus, which Related Digital is developing on an adjacent site, and deliver excess power generation back to the grid.

The energy campus will be owned jointly by the Republic of Korea and the United States under the structure of the joint trade agreement. Next
