$115m earmarked for expanding container capacity in India

by Kali Persall

APM Terminals Mumbai, or Gateway Terminals India (GTI), is planning to invest $115 million to increase its container-handling capacity, according to The Indian Express.

A joint venture between APM Terminals and Container Corporation of India (Concor) includes a berth line of 2,336 feet and 128 acres.

The investment is aimed at enabling GTI to accommodate changing customer needs for larger vessel capability, increasing the handling capacity of GTI by 10 percent, to 2.18 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

“The investment will allow us to cater to the larger vessels safely and efficiently at our terminal,” said Girish Aggarwal, COO of GTI. “This in turn will assist our customers to drive operational efficiency towards Indian trade.”
