Arjun-backed Bigadan stores biogenic carbon dioxide under Danish North Sea through Greensand facility

Bigadan, a circular energy company backed by Arjun Infrastructure Partners that develops, constructs, operates and owns end-to-end biogas systems, has achieved a key milestone for its Kalundborg Bioenergy plant.

The company reported biogenic carbon dioxide captured at the bioenergy plant has been permanently stored below the Danish North Sea through the recently opened Greensand facility, connecting Bigadan’s established biogas operations with commercial offshore carbon storage. Greensand, the European Union’s first full-scale carbon dioxide storage site, is operated by INEOS Energy, alongside Harbour Energy and Nordsøfonden. Its first commercial phase can store up to 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, with potential to reach between 4 million and 8 million tonnes a year as the market develops.
