Ares explores potential purchase of CIP stake

by Kali Arevalo

Ares Management Corp. is eyeing a minority stake in Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), sources with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg Law.

Founded in 2012, CIP is a leader in energy infrastructure investments, specializing in developing and constructing large, complex projects that shape the future of energy. Through its funds, CIP invests in power generation including solar and wind, energy storage, transmission and distribution, advanced bioenergy, low-carbon fuels, and carbon capture. With 15 funds currently under management, CIP has raised €43 billion ($49 billion) to date and has projects in more than 30 countries.

Ares, a U.S.-based private credit manager, has reportedly been exploring the potential deal in recent months, according to unnamed people with knowledge of the matter. However, there is no certainty an agreement will ultimately be reached.
