Hundreds of billions of new investment to be funneled into Canadian infrastructure and businesses

Canadian infrastructure and businesses are in line to receive C$500 billion ($359 billion) of new investment commitments in the coming years, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Sept. 15.

This was decided at Canada’s first investment summit, which took place in Toronto on Sept. 14–15. It was hosted by the federal government in partnership with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments), two of Canada’s largest and most sophisticated institutional investors. The summit convened investors from nearly 30 countries who manage more than C$100 trillion ($72 trillion) in assets.

Within five years, the government’s capital investments and incentives in support of third parties are expected to help enable more than C$1 trillion ($719 billion) in total investment from public, private and institutional partners.
