Eelpower Energy acquires Silkstead battery storage project in England

Eelpower Energy, a U.K. grid-scale battery storage platform backed by Equitix, Aware Super and the National Wealth Fund, recently acquired its fifth asset: the 50-megawatt/200-megawatt-hour Silkstead battery energy storage system (BESS). Balanced Grid Works sold the asset to Eelpower Energy for an undisclosed amount.

Located to the southeast of the Winchester substation in England, Silkstead BESS will commence construction in 2027, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2028.

As Eelpower Energy’s fifth acquisition since its launch in September 2025, Silkstead represents an important milestone in the buildout of Eelpower Energy’s portfolio of grid-scale, flexible storage assets as part of its plans to invest £500 million ($674 million) into BESS in Great Britain.
