It appears Texas is taking a page from New York state’s book in its approach to new data center development.
On the heels of New York state Gov. Kathy Hochul’s executive order creating the nation’s first statewide moratorium on new hyperscale data centers, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has directed the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to conduct a comprehensive verification and audit of all data centers advancing through ERCOT’s interconnection process before any new project moves forward.
A Texas Tribune analysis from June identified at least 248 planned data center projects across the state. But any project that fails to comply with the new requirements set forth by the PUCT and ERCOT
