Data centers scaling fastest across Asia Pacific, although U.S. remains far ahead in capacity terms — Savills

While the United States, followed by China, remains the dominant data center market globally by sheer capacity, Malaysia has scaled the most rapidly — by 132 percent — in two years, says Savills, with Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Finland, India, the Philippines and Australia also growing to meaningful scale very quickly.

According to Savills’ Impacts global thought leadership program, Johor Bahru, located in Malaysia across the causeway from data-processing-hungry but land- and power-constrained Singapore, has contributed to Malaysia’s data center IT power growth accelerating since 2024. It now offers 1,310 megawatts of live capacity. Indonesia (up 66 percent since 2024), India (up 35 percent) and Australia (up 32 percent) have also grown rapidly to meaningful scale over the same time frame, according to Savills’ analysis of data from DC Byte, while Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Finland have grown rapidly but capa
