Octopus Energy Generation has joined the European Commission, the Republic of South Africa and Global Citizen’s Scaling Up Renewables in Africa campaign, a landmark partnership between governments and the private sector that recently raised $17.8 billion to accelerate renewable-energy deployment across Africa.
Octopus is the only British business contributing to the global campaign, leveraging its Power Africa Initiative to catalyze $450 million of clean-energy investment. In addition to new solar and wind generation, the Power Africa Initiative will focus on a range of clean-energy investments, ranging from generation to transmission and digital infrastructure. The company’s contribution will enable projects capable of providing power for 1.1 million people across Sub-Saharan Africa, providing a significant contribution to the campaign’s commitment to expand electricity access to more than 17.5 million homes.
