Octopus Energy Generation enters German solar market

by Kali Persall

Octopus Energy Generation has made its debut in Germany’s solar market with two investments. The company acquired the 122-megawatt Schiebsdorf solar farm in Brandenburg from ib vogt; and the 20.8-megawatt Hartungshof solar farm near Saarbrücken in Saarland from Greencells Group.

The Schiebsdorf solar farm is under construction, with completion slated for later this year, and the Hartungshof solar farm has operated since March 2023. The two solar farms together will generate clean energy to power the equivalent of 55,000 German homes each year — the equivalent of removing 48,000 gas cars from the road annually.

Both solar farms were acquired by the Sky (ORI SCsp) fund, Octopus Energy Generation’s evergreen investment fund that seeks to accelerate the green-energy transition. In November 2023, ORI captured a €94 million ($104 million) investment from the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) renewable projects investment.
