Progress being made in the energy-storage sector is making decarbonization efforts increasingly effective. Consequently, the sector is attracting the attention of institutional investors. In a Q&A published in the April issue of Institutional Investing in Infrastructure, Alex Leung, infrastructure analyst, research and strategy, UBS Asset Management, Real Estate and Private Markets, discusses how the energy-storage sector contributes to sustainability, and how it makes money doing so. “In the United States, the installed capacity of energy-storage projects more than tripled in 2021, and is expected to surpass 10 gigawatts in 2022. We have really reached a tipping point, and investments from institutional investors will only accelerate as the asset class matures,” notes Leung.
