Macquarie closes debt investment in Spanish solar plant

by Kali Persall

Macquarie Asset Management has closed a €43 million ($50 million) debt investment in a concentrated solar power plant in Spain.

Owned by Q-Energy, the 50-megawatt capacity parabolic trough solar plant is located in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia. The plant produces enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of more than 34,000 homes and avoid 45,000 metric tons of carbon emissions per year.

Funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management negotiated the debt financing on a bilateral basis with Q-Energy, on behalf of institutional investors. Macquarie said this agreement builds on previous financing agreements with Q-Energy, including a €90 million ($105 million) debt investment in a 120-megawatt portfolio of concentrated solar power plants in June.

“Patient institutional capital can play a key role in accelerating the energy transition by providing a stable source of long-term debt financing for the development and operation of green energy proj
