Macquarie Capital Principal Finance has acquired a majority stake in Evercreech Renewable Energy, a greenfield anaerobic digestion development in the United Kingdom. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Following construction, the facility will be located on an industrial estate in southwest England, and will support more than 400 local dairy, brewing and baking manufacturers with a less carbon-intensive waste disposal service, as well as the nearby residential population.
The plant is expected to start adding green gas into the United Kingdom’s national gas network by early 2022. Once fully operational, it will save an estimated 95,000 tonnes of food waste from going to landfill each year.
The investment will add to Macquarie’s existing Adapt Biogas portfolio and double its capacity of gas-to-grid biomethane.
