AMP Clean Energy agrees to install low-carbon energy center for malt producer

AMP Clean Energy is planning to install, own and operate a £16.5 million ($21.3 million) low-carbon energy center for malt product manufacturer and distributor, Muntons. The move will save Muntons roughly 15.5 thousand tonnes of carbon per year at its plant in Stowmarket.

The energy center will include a 14-megawatt biomass boiler and a gas CHP system and will decarbonize 100 million kilowatt hours of heat demand each year, the equivalent of decarbonizing the heat of more than 8,000 homes.

AMP Clean Energy will be responsible for the development, design, installation and ongoing operation of the energy center, and Muntons will purchase the low-carbon heat and power generated under a long-term energy supply contract.

Work on the installation began in late July, with commissioning targeted by April 2021.
