Largest shipping vessel docks in East Coast port

The CMA CGM Brazil container ship has docked in the Port of New York and New Jersey, making it the largest vessel to arrive on the East Coast, according to several news reports.

The ship, which arrived Sept. 12, is as long as the Eiffel Tower is tall, according to Freight Waves.

The vessel is en route to the port of Norfolk, Va., and expected to arrive there Sep. 15. It is transporting clothing, furniture, toys, pharmaceuticals and food for distribution to retailers, according to ABC7.

“The landmark arrival of the CMA CGM Brazil showcases the port’s ability to handle the world’s largest container ships, an outcome of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s key investments over the past few years,” said the port in a statement. “Improvements such as the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Program, which increased the air draft of the bridge to 215 feet, in conjunction with other projects such as the harbor deepening program
