The Queensland Government has awarded the Pulse consortium, comprising CIMIC Group companies CPB Contractors and UGL, along with their Unity Alliance partners, a A$900 million ($608 million) contract to develop a 10.2-kilometer (6.3-mile) rail line project in Australia.
It will include 5.9 kilometers (3.6 miles) of tunnel under the Brisbane River and Brisbane CBD.
The consortium will design, supply and install supporting rail systems and brownfield works for the Cross River Rail project through the newly awarded Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) package.
Stretching from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, the project will integrate the rail into the wider Queensland Rail train network. Construction will include upgrades to the existing Exhibition station, augmentation of Mayne Yarde and rail operational systems, as well as signaling and telecommunications work.
Upon completion, it is expected to increase the number of trains running more frequently to enable a turn-up-and-go transport system for the whole of southeast Queensland, according to CIMIC Group.
The award follows the contractual close of the Tunnel, Stations and Development PPP, which also will be carried out by the consortium, with a contract value of A$2.73 billion ($1.84 billion).
Construction is underway and is slated for completion in 2024.
